A Cardinal’s response to scandal….
A collection of letters to the editor was published in the New York Times in reaction to the released testimony of Cardinal Egan when he was bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The testimony, released earlier this month as part of the 12,000 pages of court documents detailing 23 lawsuits in the Diocese of Bridgeport, highlights Cardinal Egan’s failure to act quickly, if at all, to protect children in his diocese.

Pope to address clergy abuse in letter…..
According to Vatican statements, the Pope is “deeply disturbed” by the latest clergy abuse scandal in Ireland. After meeting with senior Irish clergy on Friday, the Pope expressed a “profound regret” at the actions of some priests who had “betrayed their solemn promises to God, as well as the trust placed in them by the victims and their families, and by society at large.” The Pope will write a letter to Irish Catholics on the Church’s response to a report that found the church shielded more than 100 child abusing priests from the law.
